Occupational risk prevention policy
SILIKEN management, in its natural concern for the health and safety of its workers, not only complies with the requirements stipulated by Law on occupational hazard-related matters, but also improves the working conditions of its workers to the fullest possible extent while doing so.
The implementation of this policy saw the creation of the Occupational Hazard Prevention Management System, which has the fundamental objective of reaching a target of zero accidents at work and improving working conditions as much as possible. In order to do so, the first phase was to conduct a hazard assessment, with the supervision of the External Prevention Service (FREMAP Prevention Company), for each job, to detect any preventive actions which would prevent accidents.
These actions cover issues as diverse as training, hygiene measurements in work environments, modifications to machines, changes to packaging, preventive maintenance, infrastructures, etc. The progress on these actions is discussed at monthly meetings of the PMT (Prevention Management Team) made up of managers from the technical areas involved, where completion dates and the people responsible for the actions are specified. Hazard assessments are periodically reviewed when new jobs and processes are created. Any incidents that may have occurred and the resulting preventive actions are also discussed in these meetings.
The Health and Safety Committee is the legal body for employee consultation and participation. It is a peer body which meets on a quarterly basis and is formed by representatives of the Business Committee (three people) and part of the SILIKEN structure (another three people). We also work together conducting regular checks of working conditions with prevention delegates who provide their knowledge on occupational hazard prevention.
Training/raising awareness of employees is a fundamental element of the Occupational Hazard Prevention Plan. From the first day at work employees are given training on Occupational Hazard Prevention in the job and in emergency situations, which is further completed with practical training given later by the managers of the different areas.
Periodical monitoring meetings are also held with the managers of the different areas (production line, logistics and maintenance managers) etc., with the aim of learning about and providing a solution for any issues which may arise.
The ultimate goal of the prevention management system is for hazard-prevention to be seen as another element of the job in all areas of the company and for these areas to work together towards the target of zero accidents.
